Children
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14)
Children have a special place at the Petoskey United Methodist Church. From a nursery staffed with a professional child-care worker to a single-parent & family ministry, we embrace the unique needs and gifts of our children, just as Jesus embraced them. Our goal for Children’s Ministry is to come alongside families as they raise their children in the Christian faith, offering a variety of resources and programming. Please contact the church office at (231) 347-2733 with specific questions about children’s ministry opportunities.

Children's Activities on Sunday Mornings:
Nursery
The nursery is available from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday mornings for infants to age three. Our nursery is staffed by a professional child care worker as well as committed volunteers. Children are registered upon arrival and parents are assigned a beeper in case of an emergency. The parent returns the beeper when they pick up their child. The nursery is also staffed during special worship services and events.
Sunday School
Sunday School for all ages is held from 10:00-10:45 a.m., between the first and second worship services. A nursery for infants to age three is also provided at that time. Kindergarten through high school, as well as adult, classes explore the Bible and faith in everyday life.
Preschool - Megan Mainland in the nursery
Kindergarten & 1st grade - Joan Marshall & LeaAnne Montel in room 5
2nd & 3rd grades - Charisse Tietjen and Sue Herrington in room 3
4th & 5th grades - Robin Scott and Marvin Howell in room 2
Middle School - Joelle Wilcox and Dennis Myers in room 4
High School - Sandy Jakubiak in Youth Room
Children in Worship
Children of all ages are welcome in both the 8:45 and the 11:00 a.m. worship services. The Children's Sermon is a highlight of every worship experience as Pastor James creatively engages our imaginations and our hearts by inviting all children to the front of the sanctuary to learn with him. Following the Children's Sermon during the service, children ages three to seven years are invited to Children's Worship. Our children also have a variety of music options available to them. The SONshine Kids choir is for toddlers to seven-year-olds and King's Choir is for elementary students. Both choirs share their music with us once a month.
School Year Activities:
Church Dinners
True to long-standing tradition, the church family joins for a time of fun, food and fellowship every Wednesday night during the school year at 6:00 p.m. Each week a different volunteer prepares the main entrée while everyone else brings a side-dish, salad or dessert. Silverware, plates and cups are provided. Contributions of around $2 per person help cover the entrée costs, and - of course - every helping hand is welcome in clean-up. Come join the family!
Adventure Club
Adventure Club is an exciting, fun and friendship building adventure through God's truths. Kids from preschool through 5th grade are welcome to attend. We will be singing, doing crafts, have a lively Bible story and a delicious snack every week. Some times we'll do a mission project, sometimes watch a movie, sometimes a game tournament, but every week we will have fun. Join Us for the Adventure! Sundays @ 6:00-7:30 p.m. Contact LeaAnne Montel.
Summer Opportunities:
Vacation Bible School
Join us for three action-packed summer evenings of Vacation Bible School complete with dinner for the whole family, games, songs, crafts, fun lessons for children and youth, and classes for adults. Whether it's the Ultimate Adventure with Jesus or a Trip to the Foreign Lands, kids have the opportunity to experience faith in action. All children and their families are invited to join us, and we especially welcome visitors.
Fun, fellowship and spitirual growth for all ages!

PCN
PCN is a co-op school for children ages 3 to 5 where parents work alongside a teacher each day in the classroom. They are separate from the Petoskey United Methodist Church, meet every day in our church building, and are non-denominational and non-profit . They provide a stimulating environment for children to learn and grow. We are proud to share this partnership with Petoskey Children’s Nursery. Check out PCN's page on our website.
